Invoking the Goddess this winter solstice
Invoking the Goddess this Winter Solstice
As the goddess never dies. The eternal cycle of birth, life,
death and rebirth is depicted in her being and imagery still. The earth offered
plants, animals and trees which also embody such obvious cycle and knowledge. Some
trees display for us clearly with the loss of their leaves in autumn and fresh
blossom on the branches each spring. However there was a tree which remained
evergreen. The celts and pagan people of days gone by, those people who still
connected with the earth and the nature within them so deeply would bring that
tree or braches of it indoors at this time of year. Bringing that which is still
alive on the darkest night and the harshest time inside. Decorating one's home
with life and lights. Adorning the branches with tokens that represented all
which they welcomed in for the year ahead. Coins would ask for wealth and
abundance. Candles which beckon the sun to bring warmth to their homes and to the
ground, which in turn brings the bounty of the fruits of the earth which will grow under
the suns rays in the spring and summer ahead. Red ribbons welcomed love and
light force, new life.
The tradition was never completely lost with many the
christian church stripped away.
Today the tradition goes on and the knowledge of the origins
resurface as ever growing numbers of us reconnect with our true natures and
nature itself of which we are part.
Bringing the trees, braches and other of mother earths
bounties inside today on our winter solstice and darkest night is the perfect
way to celebrate, reflect and invoke for the year ahead. As from tomorrow
things will start to get lighter and lighter still. For as the branches of the evergreen
there is no ending. We move and flow from one season to the next.
If this year
has been a harsh one then this is the perfect night to thank the goddess for
her lessons and the strength and knowledge you have obtained from them as you
move into this new and brighter time. If you have already decorated your homes
with a tree why not bring in some pine cones, paint some beach pebbles, create
a holly reef or add something a little extra to celebrate his eve.
Burn candles, incense
and herbs tonight to honour the great mother and welcome her blessings into
your homes and lives. Eat food that came from the earth, especially soups and casseroles.
Do not squander the night, spend time alone in quiet meditation or with those who matter most sharing
with them stories and intentions for all you dream for in 2018.
And remember the great
goddess is always listening. But on solstice especially so.
